The Federal Historic Tax Credit is currently at risk of elimination.Tax reform has led members of Congress to propose the idea of eliminating the Historic Tax Credit (HTC) in order to balance the budget. The HTC has created more than 2.4 million jobs, leveraged approximately $109 billion in private investment for our communities and preserved more than 39,600 historic buildings.The tax credit has had a very positive, economic influence on the state of Massachusetts.The following statistics have been compiled from the Historic Tax Credit Coalition and the National Trust for Historic Preservation:
This tax credit not only provides incentives for rehabilitation of historic properties but has helped maintain our nation’s historic fabric.
