Nantucket Preservation Trust has filed an appeal of the Historic District Commission’s July 8 vote to approve the demolition of the former Nantucket Electric Company building at 10 New Whale Street.
The c. 1927 brick building at 10 New Whale Street is one of the last remaining industrial buildings on Nantucket’s waterfront and is a contributing structure to Nantucket’s National Historic Landmark District. The Historic District Commission’s review of the application for demolition, approved on a split 3-2 vote, was flawed, leading to an arbitrary and capricious decision. The Nantucket Select Board will hear the appeal at a future date to be determined. Register for our mailing list to stay up to date.
