It's a beautiful day for a stroll down Union Street ☀️
Pictured here are two of the more than 20 Typical Nantucket style houses that can be found along Union, a higher concentration of the style, built between 1760 and 1830, than any other street on Nantucket!

44 Fair Street was constructed in 1859 by house carpenter William B. Gardner, on land that was the original site of the Coffin School. House on the move! Yesterday we saw the first hous

House on the move! Yesterday we saw the first house move completed under Nantucket's updated demolition delay bylaw, which NPT successfully advocated to extend last fall at Nantucket's Special Town Meeting. Now, parties interested in moving a house slated for demolition have up to six months to complete a move, rather than only 60 days. We hope this change will see more homes moved and preserved, rather than demolished and sent to landfills.

We're excited to announce the awarding of NPT's Mary Helen and Michael Fabacher Scholarship to Nicky Sheriff! Nicky will enter the Historic Preservation Graduate Certificate program at Boston Architectural College in the Spring 2024 semester. Nicky currently works for the Town of Nantucket as a Land Use Specialist and Enforcement Officer for the Historic District Commission.

We're excited to announce that a new preservation

We're excited to announce that a new preservation easement has been recorded on 23/25 Fair Street! 🎉
The easement will preserve in perpetuity the c. 1837 George Folger House, as well as the adjacent open space at the corner of Fair and Charter Streets, the former site of a Pence School that was moved to Quince Street in the late 19th century. The George Folger House will be preserved thanks to the stewardship of owner Philip Carpenter, whose parents, Mary Grace and Charles Carpenter, Jr., restored the house after purchasing it in 1963. Phil was featured in a New York Times story about preservation easements on Nantucket earlier this year; you can read more about NPT's easement program and find a link to the Times' story at the link in our bio. 📰
